Robert MacNeil, a journalist and co-founder of the show that would eventually become the NewsHour on PBS, died Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 93.

Following their Emmy-winning, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Senate Watergate hearings on PBS, MacNeil and Jim Lehrer teamed up to create the show that is now known as the PBS NewsHour. As co-anchor of the show with Lehrer until 1995, he guided millions through extraordinary national and international news events on a program known for its no-nonsense, civil tone and depth.
